West Runton Social Club was founded and first opened in 1921, formed by some of the younger men in the village, on a strip of land donated by Mr Soloman, a wealthy London based businessman. Mr Soloman gave permission for the young returning soldiers to erect premises for a social club.

The building originally was an ex-Army hut manhandled into place. At this time, the club was purely used for games and as a general meeting place; the bar came much later in 1938. As War loomed in 1939, in West Runton, a special meeting was taking place to discuss the proposal that Lady members could be admitted to the Club on the same terms as Male members with the motion carried.

The Club was donated to the village for the people of West Runton to use and is run in the same way today that it has always run, with a Committee to help run the day to day operations but at it’s heart, It has always relied on the support of it’s membership to survive!!
